ASPIRANCY: The Formation of the Sisters of St. Michael the Archangel begins with Aspirancy which is a state of desire. A young girl who desires to be a member of the Congregation makes her intention known and so is referred to as an ‘Aspirant’. She remains with the parents and occasionally visits any of the communities of the sisters to associate and identify with them, thereby learning from them the way they live, work, and pray.
POSTULATE: This is the next level whereby the ‘aspirant’ is given a royal blue uniform after being admitted to the postulate of the Sisters of St. Michael the Archangel. The postulate is within an enclosure referred to as the Formation house of the Sisters of St. Michael the Archangel. Former training starts at this stage and the candidate is helped to discern her true calling. Usually, this covers a period of one year and the candidate is referred to as a ‘Postulant’.
NOVITIATE: This is the level whereby a ‘postulant’ is given a sky-blue uniform after a simple admittance to the Novitiate of the Sisters of St. Michael the Archangel. Here she is being referred to as a ‘Novice’. The Novitiate is within an enclosure referred to as the Formation house of the Sisters of St. Michael the Archangel. Former training continues at this stage and the candidate is exposed to the Constitutions of the Sisters of St. Michael the Archangel amidst other Church documents and a period of three months of ‘Apostolate experience’ in a community of the Congregation where she is allowed a working experience. Usually, this covers a period of two years after which she is admitted to the First Profession of vows if found ready, willing, and worthy.
